Hurricane Maria Relief Fund
An archive page. The fund is closed. This is what it did.
Hurricane Maria struck Dominica on 18 September 2017 as a category five storm and damaged or destroyed a large share of housing, the road network and the forest canopy. The Consulate in Athens opened a relief fund to collect donations from Greece and from the shipping community.
What the fund supported
Roofing materials and emergency shelter in the first months after the storm.
School rebuilding and replacement of classroom equipment.
Medical supplies routed through the health service in Roseau.
Since then
The fund is closed and no further donations are being collected here. Dominica’s national effort has moved to its resilience programme, which puts reconstruction to a hurricane resistant standard rather than restoring what was there before.
