The Bwa Kwaib, Sabinea carinalis, a red blossom that opens in the dry season.
The Bwa Kwaib is a small tree endemic to Dominica. It sheds its leaves in the dry months and then flowers scarlet along bare branches, mostly in the drier west of the island, which makes it unmistakable in February and March.
Where you see it
It grows in the dry coastal woodland of the west coast and around Roseau. It has been adopted in stamps, currency design and national ceremony.
