National Flag

Green, with a cross of yellow, black and white, and a Sisserou parrot at the centre.

The flag was adopted at independence on 3 November 1978. The green field stands for the forest that covers most of the island. The tripartite cross represents the Trinity, and its three colours stand for the indigenous people, the soil, and the rivers and waterfalls.

The centre

At the crossing sits a red disc bearing a Sisserou parrot, encircled by ten green five pointed stars, one for each parish of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The red disc stands for social justice.
