Coat of Arms
Two Sisserou parrots, a lion, and a motto in Kwéyòl.
The arms are supported by two Sisserou parrots, the endemic bird found nowhere else on earth. Above the shield sits a lion, a reminder of the country’s British constitutional inheritance. The quartered shield carries a coconut palm, a banana tree, a native canoe on the sea, and a crapaud, the mountain frog.
The motto
The scroll beneath reads Après Bondie, C’est La Ter, which in the island’s French Creole means After God, the Earth. It is a farming country’s statement of priorities.
