Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Sylvanie Burton became the ninth President of the Commonwealth of Dominica on 2 October 2023. She is the first woman and the first Kalinago to hold the office, and she was born in the Kalinago Territory on the east coast of the island.

The office

The President is Head of State and is elected by the House of Assembly for a term of five years. The role is largely ceremonial: the President appoints the Prime Minister, assents to legislation, and represents the country at state occasions.
